Romantic Ways to Decorate a Hotel Room for Him

Looking to add a little ROMANTIC sizzle to your ho-hum hotel room?

You’re in the right place!

Here’s what you’ll find on this page…

One Sentence Summary:

This page contains the steps needed to decorate a hotel room for a romantic getaway, tips & tricks, easy romantic decoration theme ideas, and common mistakes to keep in mind.

Recommended: Surprisingly Nerdy Things to do in Las Vegas

Step 1: Choose a location (Motel, Bed & Breakfast or Hotel)

Why Choose a Hotel?

Hotels are typically well established and conveniences oriented than other accommodations. They offer high quality amenities, a variety of room styles & sizes, considerate customer service.

Alternatively, hotels are often more expensive than a motel and less personal than a bed & breakfast.

When it comes to decorating for a romantic getaway, a hotel room is the perfect “blank canvas” because of the neutral color themes commonly used and abundance of lighting. Adorn your room with ease and rest assured that when it comes to clean up, as long as you don’t leave an egregious mess, the hospitality staff will take care of it. We recommend verifying an individual hotel’s decoration cleanliness policy before making a reservation.

Also, don’t be afraid to ask for couples benefits! See our recommendations in the Quick Tip below.

  • Quick Tip – Before you check in, ask the hotel what types of couples perks they offer. Many hotels will offer one or many of the following:
    • Room Discount (typically 20%)
    • Upgrading to a larger room or room with a view
    • Couples packages including extra amenities or additional perks
    • Late check out
    • Access to the spa or sauna
    • Decoration packages (the hotel will decorate and clean up for an extra charge)

Why Choose a motel?

Motels are ideal if you need to take a short stop while on the road. Although they offer less amenities, they are often more convenient, private, and inexpensive than a hotel. Additionally, the staff typically have a better pulse on local unique restaurants, activities, and shopping.

When it comes to decorating for a romantic getaway, a motel room should have all basic necessities. Since the standard room décor may not be as quality as other accommodations, you may want to add more decorations to improve the romantic vibe.

Motel staff are typically not as accommodating as hotel staff when it comes to decorating & clean up, so we definitely recommend understanding the facility’s policy before check-in.

  • Quick Tip – Utilize motel staff to make your romantic travel experience extra unique. Make sure to ask them for recommendations in the following areas:
    • Restaurants & shopping
    • Finding local tours or subject matter experts
    • Discovering “locals only” experiences and activities
    • Famous locations to visit in the area

Why Choose a Bed & Breakfast?

Bed & breakfasts are ideal for a relaxing, low stress romantic trip. They tend to have more charming features with amenity offerings that can be either highly unique & personal, or very minimal. You will need to do extra research and coordinate with staff to understand the options.

Since these locations often have small owner-operated staff, they require some extra effort from guests in the form of personal clean up check-out policies. Large messes can yield high fees at checkout.

Step 2: Prep the Room

How do you Set Up a Hotel Room in Secret?

If you’re trying to make your romantic decor a surprise, there are a few approaches you can take:

  • Have someone else decorate the room for you
  • Go early and decorate the room yourself
  • Ask the hotel staff to decorate the room for you
  • Pay a service to decorate the room for you (we recommend Uberoom)

How to Decorate Like a Designer?

The objective of your decorations is to make the hotel room look personalized, inviting and festive.

Before you check in, study pictures of the room from the website or a review site. If there are aspects of the hotel room that you don’t like, then cover them with things that you do like.

For example, common curtains, bedding, pillows, and lighting can easily be disguised with thoughtful embellishments. Bring your own comfortable pillows, purchase a themed throw blanket, or cover the curtains with a quality backdrop.

Further improve the ambiance by appealing to all of the senses: play fun music, open a delicious smelling air freshener (we recommend against candles because they can set off the fire alarm), turn on a themed loop video or picture on the TV, and hang additional mood lighting.

Remember that most hotel rooms come with a coffee pot, microwave, and/or refrigerator. These items can be used to creatively enhance your décor by allowing you to include small touches such as making small desserts, keeping flowers fresh, or cooking small pre-packaged meals.

Step 3: Choose a Theme

The most meaningful romantic themes are based on the relationship you share with your significant other. When planning how to decorate your hotel room, we recommend basing your decorations on shared experiences or interests.

However, sometimes its difficult to find a common interest theme or your significant other wouldn’t appreciate that type of theme.

If that sounds like your situation, then feel free to use one of our Romantic party themes below.

If you’re looking to set a more playful mood for a birthday, see our page on How to Decorate a Hotel Room for a Birthday.

I Love You to Pizzas

Set the mood with this Romantic Italian Dinner Playlist on Spotify, a video of the Italian Flag from YouTube, or a 10 Hour Spiderman Italian Song that progressively speeds up. Make a tender gift of a pizza box full of topping themed socks.

Step 4: Execute the Surprise

Once the room is fully decorated, it’s time to execute the big reveal!

Hopefully your partner doesn’t know about your decorations ahead of time. If they do know or suspect something, we recommend charging ahead anyway! A fun decorated room is a thoughtful gesture and will still make your partner feel appreciated.

If they don’t know about your decorations and you’re trying to maintain the secret, we recommend doing the following to avoid making any mistakes:

  • Make sure the front desk doesn’t give away the surprise! If you have checked in earlier and already have the key, either ask the front desk ahead of time to be discrete when you check in or pretend to check in while your romantic partner waits somewhere else.
  • Talk about things that make it seem like you haven’t been in this place before. Comment on fun or interesting features of the hotel.
  • Ask your partner to open the door to the room door. This is pretty easy to do if you offer to carry most of the bags/luggage.

The most meaningful birthday themes are based on the preferences and interests of the birthday boy or girl. When planning how to decorate your hotel room, we recommend basing your decorations on one of their favorite hobbies, interests, fandoms, or pieces of media (shows, movies, musicians, etc).

If that sounds like your birthday person, then feel free to use one of our Birthday inspired party themes below.

Best Last Minute Birthday Lunch Ideas at Work

We’ve all been there. It’s Thursday morning, you get into the office, grab your coffee, and check your calendar. Oh shoot! Today is your co-workers birthday. You knew it was coming but you haven’t planned anything!

Time to take action.

Put on your planning hat and don’t forget…

Some of the best birthday work lunches are last minute surprises.
Here’s how to plan one.

A few things to consider before throwing your birthday lunch:

  • See if it’s appropriate for your office culture. You may have to ask around with co-workers and management, because you don’t want to plan something against policy or conflicting with meeting times
  • Don’t be repetitive. If your work team does the same birthday tradition for everyone then go with that, otherwise let your creative juices flow and plan something a little more unique for your birthday co-worker.
  • Consider getting the guest of honor on board. Some people don’t love to be surprised, and the birthday person may prefer to be part of the planning process.

On The Birthday

A Birthday Surprise Lunch Break at a Restaurant

A birthday surprise lunch break at a restaurant is often better than the one thrown in your office kitchen. It’s exciting, special, and you know it will be delicious! It’s also easy to plan:

  • Find a restaurant with a private room or quiet table where you can talk without being overheard.
  • Check out their menu online. Make sure you order food that the birthday person likes and make note of any food allergies.
  • Pick your favorite dishes for everyone to share and make reservations for brunch, lunch or dinner!

Skip Lunch and Go Straight to Dessert!

If you’re someone who is often too busy to eat lunch or has a lot of work to do on a regular basis, then this option can be particularly ideal! Grab some candles and enjoy some time with your coworkers, plus you’ll still have time to get your tasks done that day.

  • Bake your own cake. You can make a delicious chocolate cake in minutes using just cocoa powder, flour, sugar, baking soda, eggs, hot water and butter or oil. Or use a boxed mix from the store.
  • Order in cupcakes. Many bakeries will deliver cupcakes within one hour if ordered in advance. Contact yours to see if they offer this service and place an order for the day of their birthday—or even better, surprise them by ordering them when everyone else is away from their desk so it’s not obvious that something special is coming.
  • Bring in cake from a fancy bakery. If you know that there’s a bakery near your office that makes exquisite cakes and pastries, consider ordering one for the entire office for the day of their birthday. This way everyone can enjoy it without having to leave the office! The only thing left will be figuring out how much each person should pay since they all enjoyed the dessert together (unless you want to cover it yourself).

Just Drinks!

Does the birthday person sip a beer, or love a glass of wine? Maybe they’re all about stronger stuff like gin and tonic or tequila with lime. If you can find out what their drink of choice is, bring that! Or have everyone pitch in a few dollars to buy them their favorite bottle. You could also go with something less-alcoholic, like a six pack of seltzer or hard cider.

Just make sure to ask around before you buy anything—you don’t want to get something that no one else likes. And remember—don’t forget the glasses!

Week Before The Birthday

If you end up having a little more time to plan the lunch, consider one of these options:

Potluck

One of the best last-minute birthday lunch ideas at work is to organize a potluck. It’s great for big teams and even better if you’re short on time.

Invite everyone – The more people, the merrier!

A good theme makes a potluck more exciting. As an example, we once did an “Avocado and Tomato” potluck where everyone had to bring something with one or both of these ingredients. It was delicious!

Next, make sure you don’t have too many salads and no dessert (or vice versa). The best way to do this is by assigning which category each person will be bringing their food from. Do this in advance so you don’t end up with three chocolate cakes!

It’s also important that you have enough food for everybody. You don’t want your colleague having only a single slice of pizza for lunch when they’re hungry from skipping breakfast earlier in the morning because they were rushing to get their kids ready for school. The best way to prevent this is by doing a headcount beforehand so you can estimate how much food needs to be prepared or ordered in advance – there’s nothing worse than having half of your team go home hungry!

Finally, if other coworkers aren’t able to cook or bring anything with them then ordering takeout might be another option. This way everyone will still enjoy themselves without feeling like there isn’t enough around the table for everyone else too!

Birthday Party in a Box

For this one, you have a lot of freedom. You can start with a simple cardboard box and wrap it in wrapping paper, or buy a gift bag and fill it with lunch items. It’s also nice to include a card, so that your co-worker knows who the box is from and why they’ve received it. This idea works well because you can tailor everything to the recipient’s tastes. For example, if you know your co-worker loves Chinese food, pack them some wontons or noodles into the box along with some chopsticks and fortune cookies for an authentic feel. Or, if your co-worker prefers something more American-style like hamburgers or pizza slices, then by all means throw those in a gift box (along with all of the necessary condiments) to make their day! If you really want to get creative then include napkins as well.

Thoughtful Non-Food Related Ideas

Balloon Bouquet

Balloons are a great last minute birthday idea. They’re festive and fun, and they come in a wide variety of colors, shapes and sizes. Balloons can be bought at places like party supply stores or supermarkets, making them easy to find. You can even order balloons online for quick delivery or pick-up. One of the best things about balloons is that they are easy to store and transport, making them convenient to have on hand for any last minute birthday celebrations!

Surprise Them in the Parking Lot

If you’re really bad at remembering birthdays, there’s a chance that this last-minute birthday lunch idea will be your first idea. Okay, so it’s more like an after-work surprise than a lunch, but why not make the most of being caught off guard and do something truly memorable? Here are some ways to pull off a parking lot birthday surprise:

  • Get everyone together in the parking lot
  • Decorate their car
  • Put gifts inside the car
  • Send them off with songs or cheering
  • You can even ask everyone to honk their cars’ horns as they drive past

Send a Funky Birthday eCard

Look for a card that fits the person’s personality, interests, or sense of humor. Once you’ve found the perfect ecard, navigate to the ‘send card’ or ‘add recipient’ section of the website.

Ultimate List of Unique Party Ideas for 7 Year Olds

When it comes to planning a party for 7 year olds, let your imagination fly! Pretty much any new adventure will appeal to their sense of curiosity, imagination, and wonder.

This post will share the best & brightest ways to create a unique party that will truly impress your child’s guests.

Table of Contents

How to Make a Common Party Theme Unique?

‘Common’ themes are parties designed around popular TV, movie, or book characters.

Typically these parties can be planned and purchased at a supermarket: walk to the party aisle, choose one of 4-6 popular themes, purchase all of the themed paper goods & decorations, and pick up a matching cake from the bakery on your way out.

These parties are wonderful because they are super easy & require little effort, but they can feel a bit generic.

Luckily, there are some simple ways to adjust common themes so that they feel special and unique for your child. We’ll show you how.

Look for inspiration in the common theme show, movie, or book that your child loves – Watch it again with a new perspective

1. Play With The Setting

Be it a room, car or a boat; try to think of different settings for your party. If you’re hosting a bunch of 7-year olds in your home, this is an easy fix. You can convert the space into a completely different place. The den becomes an ice rink or the living room becomes a magic treehouse.

2. Add a Twist

Instead of going with the same theme that has been done over and over again, add your child’s own twist to it by combining the theme with another thing your child loves. For example, if your daughter wants to have a princess-themed party for your daughter’s 7th birthday but she also loves pirates, then make the theme Pirate Princess Adventure! Keep standard princess decorations, with a greater focus on pirate decor items such as gold coins or jeweled swords.

Another way of doing this is by combining your theme with a certain color or material (glitter, dinosaur skin, etc). For example, you could throw a Purple Sparkle Harry Potter Party, or a Red Hot Hulk Party.

3. Focus on A Minor Character or Plot Element

You can make a party theme more unique, by focusing on a less important character or theme. For example, instead of having a straight Pokemon party, choose a specific Pokemon to celebrate or set the party in a Gym where guests can battle with ease.

4. Use Your Child’s Imagination

Its highly likely that your child has already imagined all sorts of ways that their favorite characters or theme could be brought to life! Pick their brains for what their “dream” party would look like — they’ll be excited to see everything come to life and will help you personalize the party.

You can use a dark room and scary decorations, play scary music (such as “The Grudge” soundtrack), have a scary storyteller tell stories, serve scary food (like pizza with fake blood on it), and give out candy that has been dipped in chocolate syrup.

Lost Ancient Artifact Treasure Hunt

Merging adventure with history might be one of our favorite combinations! Treasure Hunts are a great idea for your little one’s birthday party, so why not give this one a realistic treasure? There are quite a few lost treasures remaining in the world according to Live Science:

Backyard Campout Shindig

You can set up your backyard for a full-on campout experience. Put up a tent, have the kids cook outdoors on the grill and make s’mores, then sleep in sleeping bags under the stars. Add some fun activities like games and movies to make it even more fun!

You can change this party theme to fit your child’s interests by having an animal theme or space theme instead of a camping one. You could also plan to go on a trip somewhere where you can really live like a camper!

Bring your guests further into the super hero magic by getting them involved in designing their own superhero or comic book cover. You can print out templates, or just give them blank paper and let them draw whatever they want. If you want to go all out, have the kids autograph their book and get them laminated.

4. Treasure Hunt

A treasure hunt is a fun way to get kids moving and thinking creatively. You can make it a race, which gives everyone an incentive to go fast. Or you could make it a scavenger hunt, where each team gets points for each item they find. Either way, the kids will have a great time!

A ride-on train is a great way to celebrate a birthday with small children, especially those who are fascinated by trains. You can buy one, rent, or visit one in your community.

6. Water Play

Water play is one of the most popular activities at kids’ parties. It’s a great way to cool off during the warmer months and something that can be easily adapted to suit any guest count. At our five-year-old’s birthday party, we had a small pool set up in the back garden with a few inflatables floating around inside it. We also set up an area where kids could fill their own buckets with water and throw water balloons so they could play around with it after they’d had their fill of splashing around!

7. Backyard Farm Party

If your child loves the farm, then this is a perfect theme for his or her birthday party. You can decorate your backyard with farm animals and set up a small barn where they can play games. There are many different types of games that you can play at this kind of party including cowboys and Indians, hide-and-seek, tag, etc.

Young children love coloring, so why not throw them an art party? All you need are some crayons, colored pencils or markers and an old box (we have an old shoe box we use). Finally, set up your table with all the supplies and let the kids go at it!

10. Night Games Party

You can throw a flash light party for your 5 year old’s birthday. The best part about this is that your child will get to go outside and play with their friends in the dark. They will also be able to make crafts using flashlights.

This is one of our favorite party themes because it’s so versatile. You can do it in just about any color scheme and decorate with anything from fish nets to beach balls. It also lends itself well to a variety of activities, like making play dough seashells or painting ocean scenes on paper plates. A fun craft project for this theme is making fish puppets out of colored paper plates and pipe cleaners.

Have a roaring good time at a dinosaur party! You can start off with the egg hunt. If you want to make it even more fun, hide some eggs outside in the backyard and then bring them into the house as well. The kids will love this! Inexpensive Toddler Birthday Party Ideas for a 2-Year-Old

The big day finally arrived! Your little one is turning two, and it’s time to celebrate. If you’re looking for unique ideas for a birthday party fit for your toddler, you’ve come to the right place. From games and activities to food, drinks, themes and more, we’re here to help with an ultimate guide of birthday party ideas that are guaranteed to keep your toddler smiling from ear-to-ear.

What are the best inexpensive party themes?

Deciding on a theme for your toddler’s birthday party can be fun and easy. There are many themes to choose from, but you should pick one that is age appropriate. Here are some ideas for toddler-friendly themes:

  • A Zoo Animal Party! This theme works well for both boys and girls since there are so many animals at the zoo. Check out this list of fun animal-related crafts.
  • Pirate Birthday Party! This is another classic theme that never goes out of style (and is perfect if you’re planning on hosting an outdoor event). If it’s wintertime, have guests dress up like pirates instead by wearing black clothes and face paint!
  • Box Lunch Party! If you’re looking for a fun toddler birthday party idea that won’t cost you a fortune, consider using a simple lunchbox as the focal point. Include a variety of food in the lunchbox—lots of finger foods is best! And provide fun school yard activities like ‘color me’ pages for crayons and markers; coloring books; sidewalk chalk; playdough; stickers and bubbles.
  • Dress up Party! A dress up party is a great option if your child is into dressing up. This can also be a theme for a party for any age group, but it’s especially fun for two year olds because there are so many options and toddlers love variety!
  • Let’s Visit the Zoo! Make a snack table with animal masks, cookie cutters shaped like different animals (or even just a big pretzel), and different types of fruit or veggies (like carrots and cucumbers) cut into fun animal shapes. You could also make an arts & crafts station where your child can create things that remind them of their favorite animals—think paper plates painted green for frogs or brown paper bags for bears! A photo booth is always fun too because it gives kids something tangible to take home as well as being fun while they’re there!
  • Pretty Princess Tea Party! If you have a little girl, she probably loves princesses. If you’re on a tight budget, it’s not necessary to make your own cake or buy fancy decorations. Instead, throw her a tea party! The backyard is the perfect place for this party. Have your daughter wear her royal gown as she sits at the table with her friends (and maybe some stuffed animals).
  • Superhero Bash! Invite guests to dress up as their favorite super hero and get creative by providing supplies to make their own superhero capes, masks and other fun things to wear at the party. Also consider getting a piñata for each super hero to show his real strength.
  • Construction Party! Having a construction theme is a fun way to incorporate a Toddler’s favorite toys into their big day. Invite guests to bring their favorite construction toys and let them play with you! You can even plan an activity where everyone builds something together as part of the group celebration.
  • Circus Circus Party! If you’d like to make a circus-themed party extra magical, find a clown, magician or acrobat to perform for your guests. Don’t forget to do face painting, balloon animals, and card tricks!

What are the best inexpensive party activities?

Let Them Have a Cake Smash Fight

Cake smashes are usually a cute cake destruction reserved for the first birthday, however, most toddlers have refined their food motion skills and are quite good at not only destroying food but also throwing it. Having a cake smash fight is most fun when most participants can wear as little as possible (preferably at the diaper level) and have access to a good hose after they are done.

Make a Party Scavenger Hunt

A scavenger hunt is a fun way to get everyone in your party involved, and it’s also a great way to make sure that the birthday girl gets what she wants. You can create the hunt so that it focuses on finding things for the birthday boy or girl, or you can use “kid” items like stickers and pens as rewards for completing each task. The search can be made extra challenging by requiring the participants to do something silly (like pat their heads and rub their tummies) before they get their reward.

Toddler Obstacle Course

This is a fun way to get your toddler’s energy out! You can make any kind of obstacle course you want—a big maze, or one with lots of holes that they have to crawl through. You can even set up a few obstacles that are just for fun. Use balloons if you don’t have anything else lying around the house,

Treasure Hunt

If your child loves to play hide and seek, then this is the perfect game for them. The only difference is that instead of hiding from an adult, they will be searching for something that you have hidden. For example, you can hide a balloon in your back yard and give them clues like “the balloon is near the fence” or “the balloon is under the tree” so that they can find it easily. Once they have found it, you can make a big deal about how great they did by giving them lots of praise and treats!

8 Little Dirty Romantic Birthday Ideas At Home For Him

Every birthday is special, but this year you want to add a little extra spicy hot. That’s where we come in. Adding a few dirty little romantic birthday ideas will help you make his day unforgettable.

After reading this article, you’ll have enough ideas that it won’t just be a birthday celebration, it will be a weekend getaway with tons of fun activities to try.

So let’s get started!

1) Write A Love Letter

If you want to kick things up a notch, why not write your partner a love letter? It’s a simple and effective way of showing them how much you truly care about them and their happiness. The best part? A love letter is something that can be done anywhere (and at any time) because all you need is some paper and pen!

If you’re really feeling romantic, take the time to write out the letter in an old-fashioned way on nicer paper, with a quality pen, with a splash of perfume, and closed with a wax seal.

2) Massages

If you’re looking for an intimate way to celebrate your partner’s birthday and make him feel special on his big day—or any other occasion—then definitely consider giving him one or two before the big event.

Or consider getting a couples massage together. A good massage can be a wonderful way to relax, unwind, and reconnect with your partner.

3) Bubble Bath for Two

You cant go wrong if you follow the romantic bath stereotypes: a tub, bubbles, candles, wine, chocolate, and strawberries.

This is a fantastic opportunity to introduce a few fun ideas that you’ve wanted to try in the past, but perhaps considered to be too messy: whipped cream, chocolate sauce, and honey.

4) Have a Candlelight Dinner

One of the best ways to up the romantic ambiance is to add candles. And one of the best ways to a man’s heart is through his stomach! Combine the two, and you are looking at a power duo.

5) Make a Homemade Naughty Birthday Card

You can make all sorts of cards with different themes/jokes/puns within them as well as send messages via social media sites like Facebook if you want some more options too!

6) Go Skinny Dipping

It’s not just for kids anymore! Go ahead and strip down and jump in — it’s good exercise, plus it’ll make you feel closer to each other.

7) Body Paint

Body paint is a fun way to get creative, experiment with colors, and feel close with your main squeeze. You don’t need any special equipment for body painting, so it’s perfect for those who are looking for cheap ideas. Body painting can be done at home or in a hotel room and is best when you do it with someone you love.

8) Bedroom Truth or Dare

Get creative with your choices. For example, if you choose “truth,” ask him to tell you something that he’s been holding back from you. If he chooses “dare,” tell him to wear your favorite outfit for the next week and leave it on until bedtime!

Take turns asking each other questions—the best way to get honest answers is by having fun with them! Remember: this isn’t about blaming or shaming each other for past mistakes; it’s about learning more about what makes them tick without judgment or shame. The point here is to be playful and open-minded so that everyone feels comfortable sharing as much information as possible without feeling awkward about it later.
