Best Pool Floats to Pack in a Suitcase

Welcome to the world of pool floats! If you’re a water baby like me, you know that lounging in the pool, with a delicious fruity drink is one of life’s greatest joys.

Gone are the days of boring, plain inflatables. Today, pool floats are a must-have for any water-loving wanderer, and they come in all shapes, sizes, and styles to suit your personality and elevate your poolside game.

Plus, by bringing your own pool float, you can save money on rental fees. Many hotels and resorts charge a fee to rent pool floats, which can add up over the course of your trip.

From lazy loungers to whimsical creatures, I’ve scoured the market to bring you the crème de la crème of pool floats that are not only perfect for suit case packing, but also loads of fun.

So, grab your sunscreen, make some space in your suitcase, and let’s get ready to float away in style!

Pool Float Evaluation Criteria

If you’re looking at your suitcase and wondering how you will be able to fit your clothes, toiletries, shoes, AND a pool float, you’re in luck! I’ve searched the internet, high and low, to get the inside scoop on the most packable pool floats that won’t take up too much space in your luggage.

In my quest to find the perfect pool float for packing, I looked for floats that met the following criteria:

  1. Weight: It is much easier to transport a lightweight pool float, particularly if you’re traveling by plane and have a limited baggage allowance. The ultra compact float suggestions below range from 4 ounces to 27.5 ounces. Other floats are slightly larger, but most will easily fit in larger suitcases.
  2. Capacity: The amount of human weight that the float can support. Most floats in this article can support a maximum of 250 lbs.
  3. Inflation: All of the floats on this list can be inflated by mouth. Some of the larger floats may be more time consuming to inflate, so I recommend using an inflatable bed pump or small hand pump.
  4. Lounging Style: All pool floats should allow you to comfortably lounge in the water. There are various types of floats that can be fully dry, partially submerged, or somewhere in the middle. Most ultra compact pool floats are designed to be more submerged because the style requires less heavy plastic than other floats.
  5. Personalization: By bringing your own pool float, you can choose one that suits your preferences and style. You won’t have to settle for whatever the hotel or resort has available, and you can choose a float that is comfortable and fits your body type.

What is the Best Pool Float to Pack in a Suitcase?

An inflatable pool noodle is the best travel pool float because it is the most compact and easy to pack float. Unlike traditional pool noodles that take up a lot of space, at only 4.4 ounces per noodle, this slim little ride can be deflated, folded down to a small size, and stuffed in a small pocket or shoe.

Inflatable Pool Noodles

  • 4.4 ounces
  • Measures 72 in x 4 in x 4 in

Best Ultra Compact Pool Floats

If you’re looking for a float that can provide better support for longer lounging, try one of these ultra compact floats. Each is lighter than most commercial floats on the market and should only take 20 – 30 breaths to inflate.

Float Hammock Air Sofa Chair

  • 27.5 ounces
  • Measures 68 in x32 in x8 in
  • Supports up to 400 lbs.
  • Thick and soft premium PVC

4-in-1 Monterey Hammock k

  • 14.4 ounces
  • Measures 44 x 26 in
  • Supports up to 250 lbs.

Spring Circle Float Pool Lounger

  • 20.6 ounces
  • Measures 35 in x 35 in x 6 in
  • Supports up to 250 lbs.
  • Folds into 3 compact circles
  • Carrying bag included

Best Compact Dry Float

Say goodbye to waterlogged magazines, books, or any other poolside accessories. With a dry pool float, you can comfortably read, sunbathe, or even sip a cocktail without worrying about getting your belongings wet.

Dry floats tend to be heavier and bulkier than partially submerged floats, so you’ll need to save more room in your suitcase. At a wapping 78.24 ounces this float takes a while to inflate so I recommend using a pump.

However, it does a fantastic job of keeping your body from getting all wrinkly like a raisin, and feels like having your own personal cabana, in the middle of the pool!

Best Fun Compact Inflatable Tubes

Imagine lounging on a juicy watermelon slice, floating on a giant frosted donut, or cuddling up in a sparkling heart while sipping on your favorite tropical drink. It’s not just a inflatable tube, it’s a statement piece that screams “I’m here to have a blast!”

Best Pop Culture Compact Pool Floats

Oh boy, who doesn’t love a pop culture-themed inflatable to bring on vacation? It’s like bringing a little piece of your fandom with you wherever you go! Imagine floating in the pool on a Spiderman-themed inflatable, feeling like a superhero while you soak up the sun. Or how about lounging on a Titanic-themed inflatable, reenacting that famous ending scene with your best friend while you sip on a pina colada? And let’s not forget about the Jaws-themed inflatable, because who doesn’t want to feel like they’re being hunted by a great white while they relax in the water?

Seriously though, these inflatables can add a ton of fun to your vacation, and they’re perfect for capturing some hilarious photos to share on social media. Plus, they’re a great way to make new friends – I mean, who wouldn’t want to strike up a conversation with someone floating by on a giant doughnut with sprinkles?

Best Pool Float Accessories

An extra pool float accessory such as an inflatable boogie board, swim belt, pack of games, or drink cooler can add some lightweight sizzle to a smoking vacation! These inflatables can be set up easily at the pool or beach and provide a fun and active way to pass the time.

Each accessory can be used for its intended purpose, such as floating on the water, carrying your drinks, and helping you to swim or used as a cushion or pillow on long flights, sleeping in tents, or car rides.

Pool Float Packing Limitations

While pool floats are a fun and popular addition to any vacation, there are some packing limitations to keep in mind. Here are a few:

  1. Size and Weight: Pool floats can be bulky and heavy, which can limit the amount of other items you can pack in your suitcase. Be sure to check the weight and size restrictions for your suitcase with your airline before packing a pool float.
  2. Inflation: Some pool floats may also require a separate air pump, which adds extra weight and bulk.
  3. Fragility: Pool floats can be delicate and prone to punctures or tears, especially during transport. To avoid damage, be sure to pack your pool float in a protective carrying case or cover it with a towel or other soft material.
  4. Local Regulations: Some pools may have restrictions on the use of personal pool floats or inflatables. It’s important to check with the pool operator or hotel staff to ensure that your pool float is allowed in the pool.

By keeping these limitations in mind, you can ensure that you pack your pool float in a safe and practical way, and that it will be a fun addition to your vacation without causing any headaches.

What is the Best Way to Store a Pool Float?

The best way to store a pool float depends on the type of float and the available storage space. Here are some general tips:

  1. Clean and dry the pool float thoroughly before storing it. This will prevent mold and mildew growth.
  2. Deflate the pool float and remove any excess water. You can do this by using a towel or a sponge.
  3. If the float has a valve, close it tightly.
  4. Fold the pool float neatly, making sure there are no creases or folds that could cause damage.
  5. Store the pool float in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. If possible, store it indoors to protect it from the elements.
  6. If you have limited storage space, consider hanging the pool float on a wall to dry or storing in a vacuum compression bags for travel.
  7. Avoid stacking heavy objects on top of the pool float, as this can cause it to lose its shape or become damaged over time.

By following these simple tips, you can help prolong the life of your pool float and ensure that it is ready for use when you need it.

Where to Buy Disposable Underwear for Travel? 3 Quality Places

Are you someone who loves to travel, explore new places, and embark on exciting adventures? Well then, let me tell you about disposable underwear! Yes, you read that right – disposable underwear.

It might sound crazy, but trust me, it’s a game-changer for any traveler out there. Not only are they compact and easy to pack, but once you wear them you can toss them out to make space in your bag for souvenirs!

No more worrying about running out of clean undies or finding a laundromat during your trip. These disposable beauties don’t require any reservations! So, let’s make traveling light and hassle-free – one pair of disposable underwear at a time.

Why buy disposable underwear?

Disposable underwear has a variety of travel applications. Here are some of our favorite situations:

  • Trips where you have space & weight limitations
  • Trips that last for long periods of time
  • Times when you could lose your luggage (checked bags vs carry-on bags)
  • Business trips
  • Outdoorsey activities such as camping, hiking, backpacking, sports, safari, etc.
  • Working out
  • Hospital stays
  • Long flights where access to the restroom is limited or difficult

For less than a dollar a pair, you can have peace of mind and reliability during your travels.

What types of disposable underwear can I buy?

Cotton Based Underwear

Typically made of a relatively thin cotton that is soft, stretchy, breathable, and relaxing. In order to fit various types of bodies, there is typically a small amount of elastic in the waist and leg areas. Be aware of this as you plan for sizing.

The cotton is high enough quality to be washed a few times, if needed, however it is not as durable as standard undergarments so do not rely on its durability after a few washings. Clothes washing machines may shorten the lifespan of the garment more than hand washing.

It can be used safely without washing before wearing.

Synthetic Cotton & Maximum Absorbency Underwear

Primarily designed for incontinence, this underwear is comfortable and highly absorbent. It has smell-neutralizing components that leak out of the actual underwear and can be purchased with appealing floral or fresh scents. Due to the absorbent nature of the product, it is one-time use only and cannot be washed.

There are a variety of styles, cuts, materials and colors for all body shapes. It can be purchased at any retailer that carries feminine hygiene products and may be less expensive than pure cotton-based options because it comes in bulk.

Where to buy disposable underwear in-store?

Most major retailers do not sell cotton disposable underwear in-store. They have a large selection of Synthetic Cotton Maximum Absorbency underwear that can be found near the feminine hygiene products.

If you are looking for cotton underwear specifically, you will need to order online.

Where to buy disposable underwear online?

Amazon

Has the best selection of styles, colors, and fabrics. Shipping times are often the fastest and the return policy is great.

. . .

walmart

Has a few options for cotton underwear and they are all sold through a third party retailer (standard shipping is 3 days). There are many options for synthetic underwear from Walmart directly.

onederwear

Company founded on the goal of reducing the amount of dirty laundry after a vacation by creating disposable underwear, socks, and plane chair sheets. There are various styles of underwear and all come in a 5 pack.

So grab your sunscreen and a beach chair, and let’s dive into the best places to watch surfers in San Diego!

Table of Contents

Recommended: Surprisingly Nerdy Activities to do in San Diego

What is the best time to watch Surfers in San Diego?

Time of the Day

The morning and evening are frequently the finest times to go surfing. You will find the highest number of quality surfers on the ocean either early in the evening or just before sunset.

Due to pressure differentials between the land and ocean, surfing is best when an offshore wind is blowing, typically at the beginning & end of the day. In the middle of the day, on onshore wind sometimes known as a “sea breeze” develops as hot air from the land rises while cooler air from the sea flows beneath it. This blows the wind away from the ocean, toward the land, which makes for less ideal surfing conditions.

What are the best places to watch Surfers in San Diego?

Oceanside Pier

Why this surf spot?

This place has waves for days! With miles and miles of sweet little breaks, you’ll see all kinds of surfers from the newbies just starting out to the gnarly veterans who shred those waves like nobody’s business. Plus the Oceanside Pier is pretty cool! It’s huge! At almost 2,000 feet long, it’s one of the longest piers on the whole dang West Coast.

For spectators

The pier is one of the few places where you can catch a bird’s eye view of the surfers as they ride the waves and show off their moves. It’s always fascinating to watch them scope out the perfect wave from afar and then ride it all the way to shore. And, if you’re lucky, you might even see a brave surfer weave through the wooden pillars of the pier for an even more radical ride!

The surfing community in Oceanside is strong and it’s a blast to soak up their energy and excitement. Don’t forget to grab a bite at one of the cool surfer-run restaurants nearby, like the Beach Break Cafe or The Privateer. Hang loose, dudes and dudettes!

La Jolla Shores

Why this surf spot?

This spot is so good, even the seals come to hang out! And who can blame them? With miles of sandy beach, crystal-clear water, and perfect waves, it’s no wonder everyone loves it here. You’ll see surfers of all levels, from first-timers to seasoned pros, and everyone is just having a blast. Plus, with well-staffed lifeguards and plenty of amenities, you can sit back and relax without a care in the world. Just don’t forget your sunscreen – you don’t want to end up looking like a lobster!

For Spectators

There are two primary surfing areas on the beach. You’ll find the surfers by the best breaks on the south end of the shore (rolling in towards the pier). The area is has a very beachy vibe with a few fun restaurants, parks, and beach supply rental shops.

Windansea, La Jolla

Why this surf spot?

The waves here are no joke – they’re powerful, fast, and really pack a punch. But that doesn’t stop the local surfers from carving up the ocean with style and grace. Windansea has some of the most consistent surfable waves in San Diego which typically draws a decent number of surfers at peak wave times. This spot is definitely for more advanced surfers, not beginners. While you’re there, be careful not to ruffle any feathers with the regulars – they can be a bit territorial.

For spectators

If you’re looking for a front-row seat to watch some surfers catch some gnarly waves – head down the stairs to the beach off of Neptune Place street. With its high cliffs and natural arena, Windensea gives you the perfect angle to watch good surfers in action. If you want some shade take a little break in the permanent tiki hut on the beach.

Make sure to park your ride before heading down to the beach, as parking can be a bit of a challenge. But once you’re there, you’ll be treated to one of the best free shows in town.

Lower Trestles

Why this surf spot?

This place is the cream of the crop when it comes to surfing spots in San Diego, and it’s not just the locals who know it. World champion Kelly Slater himself calls this place his fave in the world! So, you know you’re in for a treat. The waves here are so long and perfect that you’ll see some of the most epic surfing ever. And if you’re lucky, you might just catch a glimpse of some pro surfers in action.

For spectators

The beach is a long walk in from the parking lot. It also requires some light hiking to get down to the beach.

Sunset Cliffs

For spectators

The area south of San Diego known as Point Loma is composed of rugged sea cliffs and is known collectively as the Sunset Cliffs. If you’re looking for a real surfers’ paradise, this is where it’s at! This spot is strictly for the locals, so you know the surfers here are the real deal. And the breaks here are so diverse that they can be surfed on a longboard or shortboard.

For spectators

Sunset Cliffs can be a little tricky to reach. Once you reach the parking lot, you’ll need to take the narrow staircase down from Sunset Cliffs Blvd. Make sure to wear some good movement shoes because, you might need to scramble up and down the bluffs & cliffs to get a good view.

Select Your Superhero Identity

Don’t let your adventure through the Marvel Universe be anything less than legendary.

Choosing a superhero identity can be a fun and exciting way to immerse yourself in your trip by becoming a part of the story. Dressing up as your favorite superhero can be a great way to bond with your friends and family, as you can all choose different superhero identities and have fun together. Plus dressing up will help you to keep track of your travel companions in busy places.

After your trip you will have tons of themed pictures for social media, scrapbooks, etc. (why not make them into a comic strip??)

How to choose your superhero identity? Either select a character you identify with or take the Superhero Web Survey!

Choose Your Villain

Choosing a villain for your Marvel vacation may seem counterintuitive, but it can actually be a unique and exciting way to experience the Marvel universe.

For example, visiting locations and landmarks associated with a villain can give you a different perspective on the stories and characters, and can also provide a sense of immersion and connection to the villain’s world.

If you’re a traveler who likes to take consistent trip picts, bring an item that symbolizes your villain to toss into a few photos. Its a fun way to include the villain in the storyline of your trip.

Storm Trooper as the Villain – Out Enjoying Nature

Furthermore, you can play the Villain Hot Potato Game where you hide an item that symbolizes the villain in another traveler’s luggage or a travel bag during the day. If the person finds the villain item, they can hide it in someone else’s bag. At the end of each day the person with the villain item in their travel bag loses and must do some sort of punishment or a heroic act of service for the group.

How to choose your villain? Either select a villain you already like or take the Villain Web Survey!
