Brace yourself for the mouthwatering magic of perfectly dippable appetizers that will have your guests begging for an encore!

The first official mention of these playful little treats was in the legendary Betty Crocker’s™ Cook Book for Boys and Girls, back in 1957, but they have been around in various forms and in different places for much longer:

  • U.K. They have a jolly twist — small sausages, or “Chipolatas” as they say, wrapped up snugly in delightful bacon.
  • Mexico. These delightful little treats are known as “Salchitacos,” which is a fried tortilla wrapped around a sausage.
  • China. The meat is wrapped in a pastry that is steamed and is called “Lap Cheong Bao”.
  • U.S. They’re usually petite hot dogs or sausages wrapped in flaky biscuit or croissant dough, then baked to golden perfection.

If you’re looking for extra reason to celebrate, there is a whole day dedicated to these cuties every year on April 24th called “National Pigs in a Blanket Day”!

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 375 degrees. The dough should be unrolled from both cans and cut into 16 triangles. Each triangle should be divided lengthwise into 3 little triangles.
  2. Unroll the dough from the can keeping the 8 triangles intact. Then cut each triangle lengthwise into 3 smaller triangles.
  3. Place sausage on the larger end of each cut triangle. Roll from the large end to the smaller end; place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  4. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until lightly browned. Remove from oven and transfer to a cooler surface right away to stop snack from over baking. Serve immediately.
